David McCully was born on the 1st January 1970 and raised in Thorney Close, Sunderland by his
devoted parents Sandra and Derek, along side his older brother Billy, sister Tracey and younger
brother Derek.

As a child, he was a happy, loving rascal and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and
was especially close to his grandad!. He had a passion for fishing and football, and even played for
his school team!

Those who knew David the man, knew how his dedication towards his family and friends never changed,
and how protective he was of them. He was also an immensely proud father to Samantha, David and Sean
and grandfather to Jay, and he loved them very dearly.

Apart from being a treasured son and brother, he was also a devoted brother-in-law to Allison and
Carolyn as well as being a loving uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He touched the lives of so many
people, and was loved and respected deeply.

Sadly over the latter years of his life, David became troubled due to circumstance, and found solace
in drinking.......and as a result his health declined. There is so much David could have gone on to
achieve had his life taken a different turn.

David was loving, warm hearted, soft natured, generous and had a unique sense of humour and
personality. He would never pass anyone in the street without greeting them, and many people would
stop and chat to him whilst he sat on the wall near his home! He was always smiling even when times
were extremely difficult for him! He was a character.....and those who knew him.....would have to
agree! He was a big softy!!

Tragically....at approximately 10.00am on Saturday, 19th January 2008, David's life was taken. He
was on his way to visit his friends when he became the victim of a unprovoked street attack....he
was struck at least 3 times to the throat with a broken bottle, by Ian Robert Bains. Although he
made it to his friends house for help, and despite their's and the emergency services' brave efforts
to save him, David sadly slipped away.

Our lives will never be the same. The heartache we will always feel in losing David, will never
leave us and we will never be able to come to terms with the horrific way in which his life was
snatched away! We will however, stay strong for David and see justice done.

We will always love you David! xxx

This official memorial is dedicated to David from all his family.

UPDATE (15/7/08): On 15th July 2008, a jury of 11 took less than an hour to deliver the verdict that
Ian Robert Bains was guilty of David's murder.

He was sentenced to life in prison to serve a minimum of 12 years before he could be evaluated for
any parole. He has had several other convictions in the past for violence.

The family would like to thank everyone involved in bringing Bains to justice and for all the
support received.

God bless you all xxxx

NOTE: The family would like to thank you all for visiting David's memorial, and for all the
thoughtful messages left, as well as lighting candles. It means a great deal and we sincerely
appreciate your kindness.

Thank You xxxx

So sad that another life has been taken too soon,
because of violence on our streets. I to am a broken
man through the death of my son Kevin.
Words of comfort from people do help but nothing can
take away the pain in your heart.
If at sometime down the line you would like to get in
touch with me about our fight for justice i would be only
to happy to speak with you. 01915213498 / 07780554243

For Mam & Dad

Mam and Dad, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see

I'm right by your side each night and day
And within your heart I long to stay

My body is gone but I'm always near
I'm everything you feel, see or hear

My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
As long as you keep me alive in your heart

I'll never wander out of your sight
I'm the brightest star on a summer night

I'll never be beyond your reach
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach

I'm the colorful leaf when fall comes around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground

I'm the beautiful flower of which you're so fond
The clear cool water in a quit pond

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring
The first warm raindrop that April will bring

I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine
And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine

When you start thinking there's no one to love you
You can talk to me through the Lord above you

I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees
And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep

I'm the smile you see on a baby's face
Just look for me, Mam and Dad, I'm everyplace!

i found a penny today
laying on the ground
but its not just a penny
this little coin i found

pennies come from heaven
that's what my dad told me
he said angels toss them down
oh, how i loved this story

he said when an Angel misses you
They toss a penny down
sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile out of a frown

So, don't pass by that penny
When you're feeling blue
It may be a penny from Heaven
That david tossed to you

For Davids mum

From the moment of conception
Through the labour and the pain
For having you, my beautiful son
I'd have gone through it all again

I watched you grow from childhood
They were oh so happy days
Through your adolescent teenage years
Through your laughter and your tears

Then my life just crumbled
My heart was broke in two
God alone knows the reason
For he knows all, its true

You were more than just a son to me
And I thank the Lord above
For giving me my beautiful son
To share with me his love

Don't cry for me at the break of day
and don't you worry Dear,
my life may have ended early
but I'll always keep you near.

Don't cry for me tomorrow
and let the past lie still,
I'll be proud of you each moment
that your walk in life's fulfilled.

Don't mourn for me by moonlight
as I'll meet you in your dreams,
I'll help you and I'll guide you
no matter how down that you may seem.

Don't cry for me my family
I'll wait with love so true,
and that gentle breeze upon your skin
are the kisses I'm sending you.

So sorry for your loss of David.
Rest well David and stay close to all who love and miss you so much xx
